One icon that you can’t forget doing while you are in Cairns is cruising to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. There are so many brightly coloured fish and other marine life that your mind will spin and your hands will get sore from taking so many holiday snaps.
There are numerous different types of reef cruises that you can do, and it all depends on you as to which type is going to suit you. As I have done all but one or two reef daytrips from Cairns, I have highlighted the Great Barrier Reef daytrips that I thought were [the best|among the best|great] and then sorted them in to two different categories.
These cruises are great value for money and are chiefly for the young. However, if you are adventurous in mind, you will definately enjoy these trips.
If you’re wanting a boat cruise that’s a lot of fun, in addition to great snorkelling and diving, then look no further!
‘Passions’ has their own anchoring site on the Outer Barrier Reef out of Cairns, which means no one else kicking you in the face with their fins (no overcrowding)! The staff are very inter-active with all of the passengers, getting you involved in all of the days activities. You won’t be able to escape them when they come looking to paint your face with zinc cream (all in the name of skin cancer awareness!), or when they try to get you dancing the conga around the top deck of the boat on the way home.
Scuba diving is available, and ‘Passions’ is actually the first boat I ever did a scuba dive on. If you’re as nervous as I was, the very well certified dive instructors will take you’re worries away.
Stopping at Michaelmas Cay on the way home to Cairns and being served a complimentary glass of wine while enjoying the spectacular views, is a great end to a perfect day.
